Oh God, Shane.
Would he ever forgive her for accusing him of recording her?
She choked back a sob as she realized that Camden was staring at her, smiling.
“So you saw."
Kaine nodded slowly, not sure how to respond.
He shrugged. “I was pissed at first. When I saw you fuck him. The things you did aren’t like the sweet, innocent girl I fell in love with."
Kaine felt a panic attack coming on. She took a deep breath, trying to fight it.
“Then I realized that you're not a nice girl at all. But that's ok. Now I know why you chose him over me. You like someone to push you around."
Kaine finally found her feet and shoved past Camden, running for the door. He grabbed her from behind and roughly threw her on the bed. "Stop it, Kaine. I know you like it rough," he said, climbing on top of her.
"Get off me!" She cried, pushing at him. He grabbed her arms and pinned them down over her head. "All this time I was trying to be a nice guy. You don't like nice guys though, do you Kaine?"
She tried to kick him but he was between her legs. "Let me go, Camden. I don't want this."
He shook his head and kissed her forcefully. "Yes, you do," he murmured into her mouth. "You're gonna fuck me like you fucked him."
Kaine bit his lip as hard as she could, drawing blood.
"Fuck!" He roared, slapping her in the face. She gasped, stunned. He sat up, holding his hand to his mouth. "So that's how you like it, huh?" Kaine tried to roll away from him but he grabbed her and slammed her back down. "HELP!" She screamed.
Shane pulled into Camden's driveway and stormed towards the house, pounding on the door. He tried the knob but it was locked. "Fuck," he muttered, looking for a window that was opened.
He was contemplating breaking the glass when he heard Kaine scream. "Shit!" He yelled, yanking off his shirt and wrapping it around his fist. He punched the glass out and unlocked the window, pushing it up and sliding inside. "Kaine!" He roared.
Camden reached under Kaine's dress and tore her panties off. "Please," Kaine sobbed. "Don't hurt me."
Camden ignored her and pulled out a condom.
"Camden, look at me," she sobbed. Her last ditch effort was for him to look in her eyes and realize what he was doing. He glanced at her, indifferent. "You like this?" He asked, grabbing her dress and tearing it in two. He ripped her bra open and took her nipple in his mouth, sucking hard.
"Help me! Somebody!" She screamed. Camden clamped his hand over her mouth so hard she was sure he would break one of her teeth. "Shut up," he said quietly, "or I'll shut you up."
Kaine sobbed quietly, waiting for it to be over.
Kaine's screams were the most horrifying sounds Shane had ever heard. His heart pounding, he ran up the stairs and frantically tried to find Kaine. He heard her scream again and ran to the door, smashing into it and flying into the room. He froze for a split second when he saw his Kaine, bruised and beaten, naked and pinned underneath Camden. His vision went red and he lunged for Camden, grabbing him by the hair and yanking him off of Kaine. "You fucking piece of shit!" He screamed, punching Camden repeatedly in the face. "I'll fucking kill you!"
Camden punched Shane in the stomach, knocking the wind out of him. He climbed back on the bed and reached for Kaine, who shrank away from him. Shane grabbed his ankle and pulled him back to the floor. Camden grunted as his chin smashed into the floor, stunning him temporarily. Shane pulled him over and punched him again.
Shane kept punching him until he stopped moving, then punched him again. The only thing that made him stop was Kaine's whimpering. "Kainie," he said softly, climbing on the bed. "Shh, it's ok baby." He held her as he sobbed.
He noticed that there was an unwrapped condom on the bed and prayed that Camden hadn't had a chance to rape her. He wanted to ask her if she was ok, but he already knew the answer. He wanted to murder Camden for hurting Kaine so horribly. He pulled out his cell phone and dialed 911.
By the time the police and ambulance came, Camden was starting to come to. The paramedic looked over Kaine, documenting her injuries. "Who did this to you?" An officer asked. She looked fearfully at Camden, who was now in handcuffs.
"I'm going to need you to tell me, sweetie. It's ok."
Shaking with sobs, she choked out, "C...Camden." It was the first thing she had said since Shane found her.
The officer nodded at his partner, who took Camden out of the room.
Kaine glanced at Shane, a new set of tears forming in her eyes. "I'm sorry," she whispered, choking back a sob. Shane grabbed her gently, careful to avoid her arms that were already turning purple from Camden holding her down. "Don't apologize, Kainie. You have nothing to be sorry for."
She shook her head. "The c...camera. He has videos of us. On his computer."
Shane tried not to clench his fists and upset Kaine any more than she already was. "The police are here," he said calmly. "And Camden didn't show anybody the pictures. They'll take care of it."
"Kaine, we're taking you to the hospital now, ok?" They were interrupted by the paramedic. "They need to check you over. Your friend can ride with you if you want."
She nodded, and he walked next to her as she was wheeled out of the room. She didn't seem to be injured, but she couldn't move her legs. She was in shock.
"I'll be in in a minute, ok baby?" He said to Kaine. She nodded and he went back to talk to the police.
The police were still in Camden's room, taking pictures. "Hey," Shane said nervously, approaching them. "There's pictures of us on his computer. Me and Kaine. He broke into our house and set up a camera in her closet."
The officer raised his eyebrows as Shane ran back downstairs and climbed into the ambulance with Kaine.
She already looked worse than she had 5 minutes ago. The handprint on her face was darkening, and Shane felt a rush of fury that Camden had left his physical fingerprints on her. He grabbed her hand and pressed it against his face, letting a tear fall down his cheek. “I’m so sorry, Kainie."
Kaine stared straight ahead, not responding, and Shane felt his heart break a little bit more.

Kaine's physical injuries were mostly superficial, but her mental injuries were far worse. When the doctor came in to talk to her, she was still staring at the ceiling. "Kaine Spencer?" She asked. Kaine nodded.
"Can you tell me what happened?"
She was silent for a minute. "He tried to rape me," she said softly. Shane sighed in relief at the word "tried."
"Ok. Did he make any contact with your genitals? Touching?"
She shook her head, and Shane felt his first glimpse of hope that Kaine would come out of this ok.
"So no sexual contact whatsoever?" The doctor asked, writing notes in her file.
"He put his mouth...on my breast," she choked out. Shane remembered how he had touched her breast at the end of the school year and felt like an even bigger piece of shit than he already did.
The doctor checked Kaine's arms and face. "The good news is that nothing is broken. But you might be sore for a few days. I'll prescribe a mild painkiller that should make you a little more comfortable. The police are going to want to talk to you, ok?" Kaine shrugged, and the doctor left the room.
Shane and Kaine sat in silence for a minute. Shane wanted to apologize again, but he knew it wouldn't help anything. "I love you, Kaine," he said, hoping for some kind of response. She looked away, tears filling her eyes. "I..."
A police officer walked in, cutting her off. "I'm officer Barrill," he said curtly. "I need you to tell me what happened."
Kaine wiped her tears away. "I don't know where to start."
"Tell me how you ended up in Camden Lawson's house."
Kaine told him how Camden had been pursuing her for awhile, and that she had agreed to go to his house after school because she thought she had misjudged him. "I thought he was nice," she said, tearing up. "I didn't know he would hurt me." She explained how Shane had foun
d a camera in her closet, and she had thought that Shane had put it there. "I saw the pictures of me on Camden's computer. He saw me looking and got mad. He said I wasn't a nice girl, and he thought I wanted him to be rough with me."
"Why would he think that?"
She glanced at Shane. "There were videos of me and Shane having sex. We were sometimes...like that. But I didn't want him to touch me," she sobbed. "I tried to fight him off but he kept telling me to shut up. He was so angry."
The memory of Kaine pinned underneath Camden was more than Shane could handle. He got up and stormed out of the room. He took a few deep breaths but it didn't help. He turned and punched the wall as hard as he could, cracking the plaster. "Fuck!" He yelled, getting the attention of the nurse down the hall. She quickly ran, probably to find security. Shane quickly slipped back into the room before anyone came. The officer glared at him for a minute before continuing with Kaine. "So you tried to fight him off. Then what happened?"
She looked at Shane. "Shane found us. He pulled Camden off of me before he had a chance to rape me."
The officer nodded at Shane. "You're Shane?"
"Yeah," he replied, trying to control his anger. Losing it in front of a cop wouldn't help anybody.
"How did you know Kaine was in trouble?"
Shane ignored his accusing tone. "I knew that he was the one who put the camera in Kaine's closet. He's been following her around and spying on her for awhile. So I asked Kaine's friend Lucy where she was, and she said she thought she was with Camden. I went to Camden's house to try to talk to Kaine. I heard her screaming so I broke a window and found them upstairs."
The officer scratched his chin. "So you didn't know she was in trouble? You just happened to show up at the right moment?"
"What's that supposed to mean?" Shane snapped.
The officer shrugged. "Did you know that Camden had anger problems? Were you afraid for Kaine's safety?"
Shane sighed, looking away. Finally, he responded. "Yeah. Besides the fact that he was obsessed with her, he was on a lot of steroids. I mean, I know he used to be. We did them together a lot. I went to rehab," he quickly explained. "So I'm clean now. But I know how angry they made me. And I would see the anger in his eyes. He hid it well, usually. Knowing how much he wanted Kaine, I was afraid that he was going to hurt her."
The officer clicked his pen. "Ok. We're done for now. If I have any more questions, I'll call you. Kaine, your father is on his way." He left the room and Kaine started to cry again. "I can't let him see me like this," she sobbed. "He's going to find out. That we had sex. He's going to be so disappointed in me."
Shane took her hand again. "I'll talk to him, ok? He'll be mad at me, not you. He'll just be happy that you're ok."
She nodded tearfully. "What are you going to tell him?"
He gave her a small smile. "That I'm sorry for disrespecting him in his house. But I'm madly in love with his daughter, and I would die for her if it meant I could take the pain away from her beautiful face," he said, stroking the unbruised side of her face gently. "I love you, Kainie. And I'm so sorry that he hurt you like this. I'll spend the rest of my life protecting you, and I promise you'll be happy again."
Kaine sniffed. "Why?"
"Why what, baby?" He asked, frowning.
"Why do you still want me?" She asked, choking up. "I accused you of recording us. I went to his house willingly. I'm so stupid," she sobbed. "I should have known he was the one who put the camera there. I just...I'm just so fucking stupid."
"Kaine, listen to me. You're not stupid. You had no way of knowing that Camden could have gotten into your room. I still don't know how he did. But you didn't know how unstable he was. I did. And I should have warned you. If anyone's stupid, it's me. I couldn't keep you safe," he said, tearing up. He almost never cried, but he was so emotional at seeing Kaine hurt. "I love you, Kainie."
She wiped her eyes, finally looking at him. "I love you too."
Shane almost collapsed with relief that she still loved him. He leaned on her bed and gently hugged her. "We'll get through this, babe. Me and you."
"Ahem."
They looked up, startled. Tom and Nancy stood in the door, watching them. Tom's eyes widened when he saw his daughter's bruised face. "Oh God, Kainie," he said softly, walking to the bed and taking her hand. "What happened? Who did this?"
Kaine looked at Shane, and he nodded. "Tom, can I talk to you outside for a minute? Mom can stay with Kaine." Tom looked at Kaine, and she nodded. He reluctantly followed Shane out of the room.
Shane explained to him what had happened, saving Kaine from having to repeat it to her father. He nervously told her about having sex with Kaine, and Camden recording it. He thought the vein in Tom's forehead was going to burst.
"Let me get this straight," he said, trying hard to control his anger. "You had sex with my daughter under my roof, and this Camden guy snuck a camera in her closet and recorded it?"
"Yes. But he didn't show anybody. Nobody will ever know about it."
"I know about it!" Tom roared. "Where is that fucking kid? I'm going to rip his arms off."
Shane was slightly relieved that he seemed more mad at Camden than he was at him. "He's in custody. And you need to know that he didn't rape her. He wanted to, but he didn't have the chance."
"I don't care," Tom snapped. "He put his fucking hands on my daughter, and I'm going to kill him. And you," he said, narrowing his eyes at Shane. "You think it's ok to have sex with my daughter in my god damn house?"
Shane shook his head nervously. He was bigger than Tom, but he was still scared of Tom kicking his ass.
"I'm sorry for that, Tom. I won't touch her again, ok? But I'm in love with Kaine. And right now she's hurt and upset and needs us to let her know that everything is ok."
Tim took a deep breath and blew it out. "You're right. But this isn't over," he warned. "You're going to have some explaining to do when we get home."
Shane nodded seriously and followed Tom back into the room. Hopefully after he had a chance to cool down he wouldn't be as angry with him.
Nancy looked up sadly as Tom sat next to his daughter and took her hand. "Are you ok, honey?" He asked. She looked at Shane, who gave her a small smile. "I'm ok, daddy. I'm ready to go when the doctor lets me."
Tom looked away, feeling his anger rise he looked at the bruises on Kaine.
"How was your honeymoon?" Shane asked, trying to break the awkward silence. Nancy smiled. "It was nice, sweetie. What did you guys do while we were away?"
"We took Logan to the zoo," Shane quickly said. "He had a great time."
The doctor came in and gave Tom Kaine's prescription, telling him that they were free to go. Kaine self consciously pulled down her hospital gown, realizing that she had no clothes after they were ripped off of her. Shane took off his shirt and slipped out over her head. "Sorry, baby. I should have told someone to bring you clothes."
Nancy's eyes widened and Tom's eyes narrowed when Shane called her "baby."
They piled into Tom's car and went to Camden's house, dropping off Shane so he could pick up his car. He wanted to ask Kaine if she wanted to ride with him, but thought better of it when he saw Tom glaring at him from the rear view mirror. "I'll see you guys in a few," he said, hastily closing the door and jumping into his car.
Kaine watched Shane leave, feeling like an inexplicable part of her heart was being ripped away with him. She knew she would see him in a few minutes, but she didn't want to be without him. She felt vulnerable without him there to comfort her. "Daddy, don't be mad at Shane," she said, seeing the glare on his face. "He saved me. Without him..." She trailed off, looking at her hands. She didn't want to think about the horrors that Camden would have inflicted upon her if Shane hadn't gotten there on time.
Her dad forced a smile. "I know, honey. I'm grateful to him. I really am."
Kaine closed her eyes and sat back, wishing she could press rewind on life and take this entire day away.
After they got home, Nancy went to pick up Logan from Jane's, leaving Tom, Kaine and Shane alone. "Sit," Tom ordered, pointing at the couch. Kaine and Shane sat down, careful to leave a little bit of space between them.
Tom sighed, pinching the space between his eyes. Kaine knew that was his aggravated move. "Kainie, are you ok, sweetie?" He asked.
"Yes," Kaine said softly. "I mean, no, not really right now. But I will be."
He nodded. "Here's the deal. I understand that you kids have taken a shine to each other. That's fine. I'm glad you seem to care for my daughter so much," he said to Shane. "But no sex under my roof. At all. Ever. Do you understand?"
Shane and Kaine nodded seriously.
"Fine," Tom said, leaving the room. Shane let out the breath he hadn't known he was holding. That hadn't been as bad as he had thought. Nancy came back with Logan, who immediately jumped on top of Kaine. She gasped, wincing in pain. Shane gently pulled him off of her. "Kaine has a boo boo," he explained. "So we have to be very gentle with her for awhile." Logan looked at her curiously. "Your face is dirty, Kainie."
Kaine almost laughed. "It's called a bruise. Like you get on your knees when you fall. Only mine isn't bleeding."
"Did you fall?" Logan asked. Kaine didn't want to lie to him, but couldn't come up with a way to tell him what had happened. "Yes," she answered. Logan seemed satisfied by her answer and ran off to find his mom.
Dinner was quiet, with nobody knowing quite what to say. Kaine excused herself and headed up to bed early.
She opened the door to her bedroom and felt herself start to tear up. All she could see were the pictures of her and Shane together, doing private things, put on display for Camden to look at and do god knows what with. Thinking about Camden getting off to her and Shane having sex made her nauseous, and she ran to her bathroom and threw up the dinner she had eaten. She put her head on the toilet seat and cried until a pair of strong arms lifted her up and carried her out of the bathroom. Shane brought her to his bedroom and laid her on the bed. "Take my room tonight," he said. "I'll take yours."
