"What was that about?" Lucy asked one they had gotten in the car. Kaine sighed. "I'm sorry. I just needed to get out of there. Crazy day."
"No, not that. I mean the way that Shane was staring at you. What's going on with you two? And don't say nothing," she warned.
"Honestly Lucy, there's not enough time in the day to tell you what's going on with us."
"So give me the short version."
"He said he loves me."
"WHAT?!" Lucy shrieked, almost hitting another car.
"Jesus, Lucy, watch the road. Anyway, yeah. We had a huge fight today. By which I mean I screamed at him and he professed his love for me."
Lucy was confused. "So he's in love with you? Since when?"
"He said he's always had a crush on me. That's why he was so mean to me. When I say it out loud, it sounds ridiculous."
"Well, I don't know. I've seen that happen loud of times. That's how boys show that they like you. By being assholes to you. I mean, not so much at 17 years old. That's really more of a middle school thing. But who knows. Maybe he has issues from his past or something."
Kaine thought about what her father had told her about Shane's childhood. "Yeah, maybe," she said softly.
"So he said he loves you? What did you say?"
"Nothing. I fainted."
Lucy burst out laughing. "Your life is such a soap opera. I wish mine was this exciting."
Kaine giggled. "No you don't."
They pulled into the restaurant/club and Lucy pulled a bottle of vodka from under her seat. "Here. We'll just take a shot each. Just to have a good time, since I can't use my fake ID in front of your lawyer step mother."
They each took a swig and headed inside.
"Kaine!" Nancy cried. "And you must be Lucy. I'm Nancy, Shane's mother," she said, hugging Lucy tightly. Kaine glanced at Jane, and Jane pointed to Nancy and an empty shot glass, shaking her head. Kaine laughed and hugged Nancy.
"Come on, let's eat. I'm starving," Nancy said, leading them to their table.
The food was fantastic. Kaine had the chicken with wild rice and streamed broccoli, which everyone wrinkled their nose at. "What? I have to fit into my dress," she said defensively. "But your mashed potatoes look amazing," she said to Lucy, stealing a bite. Jane went to the bar to get shots for her and Nancy, and Nancy went to the restroom. Jane looked back, winking at Kaine and Lucy. She came back with four shots. "Drink these before my sister gets back," she said. Kaine and Lucy grinned at each other and downed the shots. Jane brought the empty glasses to the bar and sat back down before Nancy got back.
Nancy threw back her shot. "Let's dance, girls!"
Kaine laughed, thinking about how much fun Nancy probably was when she was younger.
They made their way to the middle of the floor and started dancing. Kaine was shocked at how well Lucy could dance in her heels. They had a blast, feeling a nice buzz and dancing with each other.
"Kaine!"
Kaine turned around and sat Camden smiling at her.
Really? Did he sneak a GPS tracker on her phone or something?
"Hi, Cam. What's up?"
"Nothing. How've you been? I haven't heard from you."
"Fine. Hey, sorry for being so drunk last week. Thanks for taking me home." She couldn't get the idea out of her head that Camden might have been spying on her.
"No big deal," he said. "So who are you here with?"
Kaine nodded to Lucy. "Shane's mom and aunt are here somewhere. Probably at the bar. Who are you here with?"
"Oh, uh..." he glanced around. "I was meeting a friend here, but it looks like he ditched me."
Kaine nodded, suddenly nervous. She didn't think he was meeting anyone. He had somehow known they were here.
"Do you want a drink?" He shouted over the music. She didn't, but nodded anyway to get rid of him. Once he left she grabbed Lucy. "Did you tag us here on Facebook?"
"Yeah, why?"
Kaine shook her head and pulled Lucy closer. "He's fucking following me, Lucy. He said he was meeting someone here, but he knew I'd be here. What do I do?"
Lucy looked around. "Do you want to go? We can tell Nancy that you're sick."
"No, fuck that. I should just confront him."
Lucy shrugged. "Good luck with that."
Camden came back and handed her a drink. "What's this?" She asked. He winked at her. "It's good. I know the bartender." Kaine took a small sip. Yeah, there was definitely alcohol in there. "Can I talk to you?" She asked.
He grinned. "Sure. Let's go outside."
She waved at Lucy and motioned that she was going outside with Camden. Lucy nodded at her and mouthed "good luck."
They stepped outside and Kaine took a deep breath. The nighttime breeze felt good against her skin. "Look Cam," she said, turning to him. "I like you. I think you're a nice guy. But how did you know I'd be here tonight?"
He grinned at her. "Ok, you caught me. I saw that Lucy tagged you here and I wanted to talk to you."
Kaine shifted uneasily. "How did you know that I'd be walking home that night?"
He shrugged, avoiding her eyes. "I didn't. I was driving and happened to see you."
Kaine knew he was lying.
"Did you see me?" She asked quietly.
Camden's face turned pink. "I don't know what you're talking about. See you when?"
"Stop lying, Cam. You were spying on me."
He sighed. "Kaine..."
"No, Camden. I don't want to hear any more lies or excuses. Just leave me alone, ok? Or I'll tell Greg that you saw his girlfriend naked." Kaine turned and stormed away, tears of humiliation burning her eyes. She now had little doubt that Camden had been the one that went through her underwear drawer. She dumped her drink, not trusting that Camden hadn't drugged it. She found Lucy sitting at the bar and grabbed her hand. "Let's have fun," she said. "I'll tell you about it later. Right now I want to dance and forget about all of the asshole men in my life."
Lucy got up wordlessly and they spent the rest of the night dancing. At around midnight, they found Nancy and Jane. "Hey!" Nancy said, sounding slightly drunk. "We were looking for you. You guys leaving?" The girls nodded and gave Nancy and Jane hugs goodbye. As soon as they were about to walk out the door, Kaine spotted a bouncer. "Hold on," she said to Lucy. She went to the bouncer. "There's this guy who's been following me around. He was here tonight. Can you just make sure we get to my friend's car ok?" The bouncer nodded and stood in the door, watching until they got in Lucy's car. Kaine checked the backseat, just in case.
"So are you going to tell me what happened now?" Lucy asked.
Kaine told Lucy about Camden following her and spying on her the night they went skinny dipping in her pool. "I can't believe he saw me naked. He was watching us the whole time. I can't even remember what we talked about, but I'm sure it was private. I'm so mad that he thought that was ok. What the hell is wrong with him?"
Lucy was speechless. "I knew he liked you, but I didn't think he was a stalker. My God, that's insane. What if he shows up at the wedding?"
"That's what I'm afraid of," Kaine said. "I mean, I told him that if he bothered me again I'd tell Greg that he saw Kelsey naked, so he would be kind of stupid to. But if he's actually crazy, he might not care."
"Why don't you tell someone?" Lucy asked.
Kaine shook her head. "I don't really want to stress anyone out any more than they already are. And I can't tell Jay. He'd murder him. And I definitely can't tell Shane. If you think Jay would be mad..."
Lucy pulled into Kaine's driveway. "I'll wait for you to get inside. But think about telling someone, ok? Just in case."
Kaine nodded and practically sprinted inside, locking the door behind her and resting her head on the glass.
Shane came into the kitchen. "You ok?"
She glanced up at him, tempted to tell him about Camden. She just nodded.
He sat down at the table. "You girls have a good time?"
Kaine nodded
again. She thought about Camden staring at her naked body and felt the anger rise in her chest. Especially after what Shane had done, how could he think that was ok? And he had the balls to tell Kaine not to trust Shane? Fuck that.
"What's wrong, Kaine? You look pissed."
Kaine stormed over to Shane. He thought she was going to hit him until she climbed onto his lap and shoved her tongue in his mouth. If anybody was going to look at her or touch her again, it would be on her own terms.
Shane froze for a minute, then wrapped his arms around her waist, pulling her closer. "You're not drunk, are you?" He whispered. She shook her head and kissed him again. He kissed her back eagerly, running his hands down her waist. A car door slammed outside. Nancy and Jane were back. Kaine climbed off his lap. "My room. 10 minutes," she whispered, hurrying upstairs without looking back.
Shane adjusted his pants. He wasn't sure what had gotten into Kaine, but he liked it.
"Hi, honey!" His mom cried.
"Mom, shh," he said, trying to suppress a smile. He had never seen his mom drunk, but she was obviously a happy drunk.
"Sorry," Nancy whispered. "Did Kainie get home ok?"
Shane nodded. "You don't have to whisper, mom. You can just talk normally."
"Ok," she said, a little louder. "I really like that girl."
"Who, Kaine?" He asked.
She nodded enthusiastically. "She's such a doll. And so pretty. Imagine if you two ended up together? Think how gorgeous my grandkids would be."
Shane glanced at his aunt, unable to control his laugh. "Aunt Jane, what did you give her?"
Jane shrugged. "She had, like, four shots. She's a lightweight, I guess."
His mom waved them off. "It's past my bedtime. Janie, thanks for a great night. Shane, I'll see you tomorrow." She headed upstairs. As soon as she was gone, Shane and Jane burst out laughing. "Well, that's something I thought I would never see," Shane said, wiping tears from his eyes. "Mom got drunk. Thanks for taking her out, Aunt Jane. She obviously had a good time."
Jane smiled fondly at him. "We had a blast. And she seems so happy. I'm glad she met a good guy."
Shane smiled. "Yeah, Tom's ok. As long as mom's happy, I'm happy. Logan is doing good too. He loves Kaine and Tom. Jay, too."
Jane grabbed her keys. "I'm glad. All I want is for you all to be happy. And Shane?"
"Yeah?"
"I don't know what's going on between you and Kaine, if anything. But just so you know, I approve."
Shane grinned. "Thanks, Aunt Jane." He waited until his aunt left then hurried to the bathroom, brushing his teeth. He quietly made his way up the stairs and slipped inside Kaine's bedroom. Thankfully, her room was close to his but far enough away from everyone else that nobody would hear them. He quietly locked the door behind him and turned around, seeing Kaine laying on the bed in her red lingerie. "Holy shit," he whispered, admiring the way her curves filled it out and her breasts were popping out of it.
He tiptoed to her bed and crawled on top of her, grabbing her face and kissing her. She kissed him back eagerly, running her fingers through his hair. He sat up and pulled his shirt off, watching the lust in her eyes. He rubbed his hands over her lacy lingerie.
"Rip it off," Kaine whispered.
Shane hesitated for a second, then understood that Kaine needed the act of him ripping clothes off of her to be associated with good things. "You sure?" He whispered.
Kaine nodded, and he gripped the flimsy red fabric and easily tore it in two, pulling it off of her and covering her nipple with his mouth. He moved his hand down slowly, finding her folds and rubbing gently. "Jesus, you're wet," he murmured, pleasantly surprised that she was completely shaved.
"Do you have a condom?" She whispered. Shane glanced up at her. "No."
She sighed in disappointment. He leaned up and caressed her face. "Listen, Kaine, we have forever to do this. There's no hurry, ok?"
She nodded.
"Besides," he murmured, kissing down her stomach, "I promise that by the time I'm done with you, you won't be able to move anyway."
He kissed her thighs and stomach until she was writhing for more, finally licking her must sensitive spot. She gasped and moaned. Shane chuckled and gave her a pillow. "Put this over your face if you have to moan."
Shane continued licking and fingering her until she came, pressing the pillow over her face and screaming. Shane loved that she was a screamer. Her body went limp and he gently took the pillow away from her face. "How was that?" He whispered. She smiled lazily. "Fantastic. Now let me do you."
He wasn't about to argue. She pleasured him with her mouth, not minding when he gave her a few pointers. Shane was thrilled to be the first guy she had touched or let touch her.
"That's it, baby," he whispered. "I'm gonna come."
He came in her mouth, and was shocked when she swallowed it. She was full of surprises tonight. He laid down next to her and held her, enjoying the feel of her soft skin.
"I love you, Kaine."
She smiled sleepily at him and reached up and touched his face, staring into his eyes.
"You don't have to say it. I understand."
He was hoping that she would, but wasn't expecting any miracles. He only hoped that one day she would feel the same about him that he felt about her.
"I need to go back to my room before I fall asleep. I don't think being caught in your bed is a great idea," he whispered. She nodded reluctantly. "That's probably a good idea."
He leaned down and kissed her hard, before pulling the covers over her. "Goodnight, Kaine."
"Night, Shane," she mumbled, already half asleep. He was envious of that. He wasn't getting any sleep tonight.

The day of the wedding was the craziest of Kaine’s life. The reception was at 1pm at the church, and the ceremony was at 2. Kaine woke up at 8:00 to a huge crash in the kitchen. “Shit," she mumbled, rolling out of bed. She went to the kitchen and saw Logan staring at a shattered glass on the floor with tears in his eyes.
“What happened?" She asked. Tears spilled down his cheeks. “I dropped it," he whispered.
Kaine smiled at him. “Well, that’s not something to cry about. What’s the matter?"
He looked up at her with huge eyes. “Mommy’s leaving today."
Kaine was confused until she remembered the honeymoon. Her dad and Nancy were taking a four day weekend at a bed and breakfast, and Logan would be staying with Jane.
“Well its only a few days, honey. Don’t you like your Aunt Janie?" Logan nodded.
“Well how about Shane and I take you to the zoo on Sunday?"
His eyes lit up. “Really?"
“Of course," Kaine replied, smiling. Logan ran off, excited, as Kaine yelled after him not to step in the glass. She started cleaning up the broken shards.
“So we’re going to the zoo on Sunday?"
Kaine glanced up to a shirtless and grinning Shane. She smiled back. “Yeah, he feels bad that his mom is leaving. It’s gotta be tough for someone his age to make an adjustment like this."
Shane bent down and helped her clean up the glass. “Where is everyone?"
“I don’t know," Kaine replied. “The breaking glass woke me up. I’m sure Jay is still in bed, and dad and Nancy are probably outside supervising the set up."
“God help those poor workers," Shane muttered. Kaine laughed. After her dad and Nancy left for their honeymoon, Jay was going back to college. She was looking forward to spending the weekend with Shane.
“Hey," Shane whispered. She looked up and he gave her a quick kiss on the lips. “You’re beautiful."
Kaine looked around to make sure nobody was watching and kissed him back, a little bit longer. She wasn’t sure if she would consider Shane her boyfriend, or even that they were “dating." They didn’t need to go out on dates. They lived together. She wanted to keep whatever they had a secret, at least for now. Especially while Jay was still home. She wasn’t sure how her family would react to her and Shane toge
ther. And what about when they went back to school next week? Would they come out as an “official" couple? Kaine could already hear the rumors going around. She tried not to think about it and just enjoy the rest of the summer.
Kaine showered and found Nancy in the yard, making sure everything was perfect. It was amazing how different the yard looked. There were 20 tables set up, along with a head table for the bridal party. A deejay had set up his equipment in the corner, and there was a portable dance floor taking up most of the yard. Thank God the weather was beautiful today.
"Nancy, this looks perfect," Kaine said, trying to calm her nerves. "Ready to go get our hair done?"
Nancy sighed. "I guess. I hate being such a control freak. I wish I could trust these guys to do everything I asked."
"It'll be fine," Kaine assured her. "It's going to be a beautiful wedding. I can't wait."
Nancy smiled at Kaine. "I'm so glad you're going to be my step daughter. Let's do this."
Kaine and Nancy picked up Jane and went to the salon. Kaine had her hair curled and pinned back, flowing softly around her face. She had her makeup professionally done, and when she looked in the mirror, she barely recognized herself. Her cheekbones looked higher and her eyes popped. It was a little more makeup than she was used to wearing, but she loved it.
"Kainie, you look like a Barbie doll," Jane said. Jane and Nancy had more simple makeup, but still looked great. Nancy's hair was up and curled and Nancy's was down. Kaine couldn't wait to put on her dress. Part of her was nervous that Camden would show up, but she didn't really think he would. She was determined not to let him ruin the day.
The girls went to Jane's house to get dressed and wait for the wedding. Luckily, it was an early wedding and they didn't have to wait too long. At 11, they started getting dressed. Nancy's wedding dress was a champagne colored floor length gown, with a v neck and beading around the neckline. Being 42 and on her second wedding, she opted for a less traditional dress. After helping Nancy put on her dress and accessories, Kaine slipped on her dress. She loved it so much that she never wanted to take it off. She pulled on her thigh highs and slipped on her silver heels. She put on the beautiful silver rhinestone earrings that Nancy had bought for her. Studying her reflection in the mirror, she almost started to tear up. A few months ago she was overweight, unhappy and wore oversized clothes to hide her body. Now she was fit and confident. She had friends, and maybe something better than a friend in Shane.
